The short version: you can use this site without an account and without giving us anything. If you make an account, we store your email and the trips you save, and nothing else. Wineries can see how many people saved their listing, never which people.
If you do not sign in: nothing that identifies you. Browsing the map, the directory and the region pages requires no account.
If you sign in: your email address, which is how the sign-in link reaches you, and whatever you save: wineries you bookmark, rooms you mark visited, itinerary picks, and saved handbooks including any notes you write in them. Notes are private to your account.
If you claim a winery listing: the contact details you submit with the claim, so we can verify you are connected to that business.
We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising on the site, and there are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
We show wineries how their own listing performs: how many times it was viewed, saved, or added to a planned trip over a period. These are counts only.
Wineries never see who you are. They do not receive your email address, your name, your other saved wineries, your itineraries, or anything you write in a handbook note. A winery cannot tell whether any particular person saved their listing, and we do not provide figures small enough to single anyone out.
Accounts and saved data are stored with Supabase, our database provider. The site is served through Cloudflare. Maps are rendered by Mapbox and OpenStreetMap, which receive the map requests your browser makes. Each of these acts as a processor and holds data under its own terms.
A sign-in session is kept in your browser so you stay signed in between visits. Signing out clears it. That is the only cookie the site sets itself.
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, or ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it. Email hello@winetastershandbook.com and we will action it. Deleting your account removes your saved wineries, trips, handbooks and notes.
Listing information about businesses, such as addresses, hours and tasting fees, is business information compiled from public sources, not personal data. If you are a winery and want a detail corrected or removed, email hello@winetastershandbook.com.
